I trust you all had a good break during the past few weeks. MAWA activities for the year 2012 will commence from this Sunday (5 Feb).

1. Blue Gum Facility
MAWA activities for the year 2012 will commence from this Sunday (5 Feb). Malayalee community members and MAWA committee members will be present at Blue Gum Recreation Centre from 3 pm until 5.30 pm. Please come over to say Hi and to meet visitors, new members as well as your old friends. You can join the volleyball or badminton groups with regular volleyball and badminton practice. Volleyball and Badminton start from this Sunday at 3 pm.
2. Line Dancing
The line dancing will commence from next Sunday, 12 February 2012. A number of people who attended last year have been waiting for this fun and action oriented exercise programme to start. Please bring your friends too.
3. Congratulations to Dr Vinay Menon-Recipient of Rhodes Scholarship
25-year-old Dr Vinay Menon has been recently awarded one of the three Australia-At-Large Rhodes Scholarships to Oxford University in the United Kingdom. <http://www.rhodeshouse.ox.ac.uk/page/about>
The Rhodes Scholarships are postgraduate awards supporting exceptional all-round students from diverse countries. Rhodes is the oldest and perhaps the most prestigious international scholarship program in the world and aim to nurture leaders for the world's future who are committed to service, and to promote international understanding and peace.
Vinay is a resident doctor at Royal Perth Hospital. He has a Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery with Honours and a Bachelor of Medical Science with 1st class honours in Paediatrics from the University of Western Australia. Vinay has received the WA Youth Citizen of the Year award (2008)
and the National Young People's Human Rights Medal (2009) for his humanitarian work. He was the co-founder and volunteer leader of the Red Cross 'World Aware' program for young refugees, and has volunteered with Indigenous children in WA and the Northern Territory. Vinay served for two
years as the elected national youth leader of Australian Red Cross. He has volunteered at a refugee camp in Tanzania, with leprosy patients and HIV orphans in India, and in a youth health project in Turkey. Vinay was the valedictorian speaker at his UWA medical school graduation.
Vinay was also selected for the prestigious Sir John Monash Scholarship for postgraduate studies.
The Malayalee Association of WA congratulates Dr Vinay Menon for his achievements. Vinay will be exemplar for other young members of our community.
